Are You a Non-Filer? Register for Stimulus Payment

A dollar bill placed on a screen that reads Coronavirus to portray stimulus checks for the coronavirus.

The Internal Revenue Service introduced an online tool to help people who don’t file their taxes receive their stimulus payments sooner in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who Should Use the Non-Filers Tool?

The non-filer tool was developed in partnership between the IRS and the Free File Alliance and provides a free and easy option for people who don’t have a return filing obligation, like households that had gross income that did not exceed $12,200 ($24,400 for married couples) for 2019 and other qualifying factors. The feature is only available on IRS.gov, and users should look for the blue button that reads “Non-filers: Enter Payment Info Here” to take them directly to the tool.

What Information Will I Need to Provide?

The tool requests a social security number, name, address, and dependents. You may even be asked for other identifying information to prevent fraud. The IRS will use the information to confirm eligibility and calculate and send a stimulus payment.

Is the New Tool Safe?

The tool is secure, and the information entered will be safe.

How Much is the Stimulus Package?

Economic impact payments of at least $1,200 will be distributed automatically to most people to help them during the coronavirus crisis. The IRS began directly depositing the first batch of payments on Saturday, April 11, 2020. Eligible taxpayers who filed tax returns for 2019 or 2018 will receive the payments automatically. For those who receive their tax returns via direct deposit, the Economic Impact Payment will also be paid out with a direct deposit.

The amount each household receives can vary. You can read more here

Can I Check on the Status of My Payment?

The IRS has a new tool called Get My Payment. You can check the status of your economic impact payment, including the date the payment is scheduled to be deposited into your bank account or mailed to you.
