CORPUS CHRISTI – Paying sales tax on a used car bought from a private party used to be based primarily on the “honor system”. If you bought a vehicle from another individual, you would go to the courthouse, tell a clerk what you paid for it, and that amount is what you were taxed on. But an abundance of people lying about the amount they paid prompted lawmakers to do away with the old system. Nowadays, a computer comes up with the amount you have to pay taxes on.<\/p>\n

Chronic I-95 Congestion Being Addressed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Interstate 95 pumps some 140,000 vehicles through the Fredericksburg area each day, and any disruption on it can lead to problems throughout the region. Area police and emergency responders have dealt with the issue for decades, but now they\u2019re using new planning methods and technology to keep up with the challenge of working and clearing crash scenes in an area now infamous for traffic congestion.<\/p>\n

Highland Park, Allen designs among poor-selling Texas license plates at risk of being pulled<\/strong><\/p>\n

Highland Park\u2019s \u201cGo Scots\u201d license plate was envisioned as a symbol of school pride. But the specialty blue-and-yellow tag has sold so poorly over the past two years, the state may throw it out.<\/p>\n

Also at risk of being yanked: Allen\u2019s eagle-embossed school plate and others featuring Dr. Pepper soda, the Fort Worth Zoo, the Coppell Cowboys and Texas Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n

More Virginia vets eligible for driving program<\/strong><\/p>\n

RICHMOND, Va. \u2014 The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles says more veterans are now eligible for the state\u2019s Troops to Trucks program. The program helps military personnel about to leave service or new veterans obtain a Virginia commercial driver\u2019s licenses and assists with their civilian job searches.<\/p>\n
