Freeway Communications offers carrier class colocation services at our
facility. Located at IX2 Networks, within the
Garland Building of downtown Los Angeles,
Freeway Communications delivers the best in
data center services.
The
Garland Building
Built in 1983 by First Interstate Bank, this purpose built
data center originally housed the third
largest data center in the country, processing
490 million in checks each day, and
controlling the ATM network for 13 Western
states. Since the departure of First
Interstate Bank in 1996, the data center space
has been re-occupied by numerous
telecommunications companies.
The
building power is supplied by two (2) separate
grids from the Los Angeles Department of Water
& Power. Unlike most buildings in downtown
Los Angeles, this two-grid system gives the
Garland Building a distinct advantage with the
ability to switch to an alternate grid in the
event one fails. The primary feed to the
building is a preferred service that receives
priority over all other grids in the event of
an emergency.
Commercial
power to the building is backed-up by four (4)
1100 KW and one (1) 1250 KW Emerson diesel
generators connected in tandem. Fuel for the
generators is stored in (3) 30,000 gallon
underground storage tanks. The generators
start automatically, within 5 to 7 seconds of
a power failure. The 90,000 gallons of fuel is
sufficient to power the generators for
approximately 30 days without the need for
refueling.
The
building is secured 24x7 by on-site security
guards stationed in the building’s main
lobby. In addition to the manned guard
station, the building utilizes a card key
access system for all authorized personnel and
escorted access is required for all visitors.
